Montessori Programme
Times and order of activities can change according to children’s interests and emerging events.
9.00 – 9.30 Morning Greeting: This is the time for reconnecting with other children and adults through free play in the indoor area. The children will choose the areas they wish to visit and the activities they wish to engage in
9.30 – 10.00 Roll call/Circle-time: This is time for the adults to invite children into circle, consult with children about their interests, call roll and engage in Story, Project or News Time
10.00 – 10.50 Child initiated activities with the Montessori materials and small group time: This is the time for child initiated activities with the Montessori materials/exercises. The key workers present new exercises and have one-to-one time with the children. Small group activities take place in this period also.
10.50 – 11.10 Lunch time: Children prepare for lunch, hands are washed. Each day two children hand out the lunches and two others feed “Nemo” our fish. Lunch time is a time for the children and adults to engage in conversation with each other, and also for the children to learn self-help skills and good eating habits. Children help tidy up and put their bags away.
11.10 – 11.50 Free play either outdoors or indoors according to children’s interests/wishes: This is a time for outdoor or indoor free play activity i.e. physical activities, exploration, pretend play, construction, creative play, music & movement, group projects, activities for festivals, holidays, emerging events and children’s interests. Time for children and adults to get fresh air, and also time for large group activities. Tidy up after large group activity is shared by adults and children.
11.50 – 12.00 Home time: Children get ready for home, sing songs and rhymes of the week. Practitioners will share news of the day with parents or carers.
The Afternoon class runs from 12.30-3.30 and has the same programme of activities.
